Am I Too Worried About the Yanks? Maybe There ARE Reasons For Hope

By James Peacock

Okay, so things have been bleak these past couple of weeks. The Yankees are 4-8 since Aaron Judge got hurt, losing 4 in a row and being swept at the hands of the Red Sox this past weekend, which always carries a little extra sting to it. It feels as though the only players who can hit are Gleyber Torres an Jake Bauers, and that the pitching staff is being pushed to its limit in terms of just how much of the slack it can pick up.

Yeah, that was painful to type. However, at the same time, the other two MLB teams who we as Yankee fans probably would put on our level in the last few years, the Dodgers and the Astros, share the same 39-33 record that we currently have. Judge has apparently had a “breakthrough” in his recovery from that fateful toe injury sustained against the aforementioned Dodgers. Carlos Rodon is slated to finally begin his rehab assignment in Somerset, the Double-A affiliate. Also, Harrison Bader is back in the lineup tonight, and he’s shown a tendency in his brief time as a Yankee to bring a jolt to the lineup coming off of an injury.

This is all a long way of saying that I, like just about every Yankee fan I now, have been deeply troubled and dismayed by the team lately. Some nights they are borderline unwatchable. That being said, they say that “patience is prudence,” and call it crazy or naïve, but I am going to exhibit (what I hope to be) a little more patience with this team.

Are there very serious problems that need to be addressed regardless of if Judge and/or Rodon are out there? Absolutely. But, a baseball season is a long slog, full of ups and downs. It is after all only June, and these are still the Yankees.

I’m going to choose to leave it at that, for now.
